Circles
This body of work is created using encaustic monotype, a one-of-a-kind printmaking process in which heated, pigmented beeswax is painted onto a hot metal plate and then transferred to paper. The method merges painting and printmaking, allowing for fluid movement, layered surfaces, and a rich sense of depth. Silicone brushes, spatulas, and found objects are used to manipulate the wax, yet the final image is shaped by the inherent unpredictability of the medium. What draws me to encaustic monotype is the freedom it offers, and the element of surprise embedded in the process. The moment of transfer—when the image is pressed onto paper—introduces outcomes beyond my control, inviting collaboration between intention and chance. This series is created within the confines of the circle. The circle functions both as a compositional structure and a conceptual anchor. It symbolizes wholeness, unity, eternity, and cyclical time—echoing natural and cosmic rhythms such as the sun, moon, seasons, and the continuous cycles of life. Its unbroken, boundary-less form suggests infinity, completeness, and balance, appearing across cultures in sacred geometry, spiritual practices, and symbolic systems.
